New Beginnings for Telos Counseling

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Welcome to the new blog of Telos Counseling! These posts will explore anything and everything related to young adults with anxiety and adult children of narcissists.

While I'm squarely in the age bracket of "adult" now (oof), the path I've taken through young adulthood could be described as "meandering" at best. Since 2009 I've:

  • Changed college majors three times,

  • Switched entire careers another three times, and

  • Transitioned between a total of nine jobs within those careers

Although it was steeped in anxiety, I don't consider that path to have been shameful; in fact, it's led me in the direction of finding purpose in my life. Along that path, I worked through an unhelpful belief that operated like a blindfold: the belief that I had to do it alone.

Telos Counseling was established to be a supportive force in the world. We're all constantly developing, and I don't want you to feel like your only option is to do it alone. I want to help you manage your anxiety, discover your voice, and forge your own purpose in life.

What is Telos Counseling Anyway?

My therapy practice is named after the Greek word telos, which is an "ultimate end, purpose, or goal" and is widely attributed to Aristotle. I resonate so deeply with this term because a telos was what I was searching for as a young adult without quite realizing it.

What held me back from discovering my purpose for so long was the suffocating sense of self-doubt, anxiety of what others would think, and the sneaking sense of imposter syndrome.

Fear of seeming like I didn't have it all figured out made me feel like I couldn't ask for help. As if not knowing the answer to something made me a failure. But who has it all figured out when you're 22? We all need help while we develop.

What Can I Expect?

I opened Telos Counseling in March of 2022 while working part time at a local mental health agency. Eight months later, my partner supported me in taking a leap of faith: leaving my steady-income job to focus my time and energy on this practice.

I couldn't have done it without her, and apart from marrying her in the first place it was the best decision I ever made!

My hope is that this blog can help in a number of ways:

  1. That these posts can act as a lighthouse, shining a beacon for lost souls that might need some supportive therapy during a rocky time in their lives.

  2. They can also offer valuable tips, techniques, or strategies that anyone can implement in their lives, even if they're not in the market for therapy services.

  3. Lastly, my hope is that these blog posts also help to destigmatize therapy and the need for mental health services in general.

Thank you so much to everyone that chose to read this post, as it's certainly easier to not do that! Also, a special thank you goes out to those of you who supported me in getting to this point, where I can live my purpose of helping others in the best way I know how.

Stay tuned for more posts and updates from Telos Counseling!
